“Lohri in Surat is somewhat different to that of north India because not only Punjabis but also people from other communities living in Surat join the celebrations” said Dr Monika Suri.
As Surat is a home to many migrants across the country, people eagerly take part in the celebrations which are held in various parts of the city which brings people of different communities closer.
“Kurta Pajama, Salwar kameez and warm fabrics like silks, jacquards and velvets in bright and deep hues such as red, maroon, bottle green and navy blue were common attires worn during the celebration of Lohri,” fashion designer Shreya Juneja said.
